Sarasota is well-recognized as one of the most prolific cultural arts communities in the country with a wealth of performing and visual arts venues and groups, the region boasts more Zagat rated restaurants than any other city in Florida, and it is most frequently celebrated for its spectacular beaches and abundant recreational choices. However, Sarasota’s remarkable architecture and its history is rarely fêted outside of our area.
A rich and distinguished history of extraordinary architects and their distinctive designs can be seen all throughout the Sarasota region. One of the most recognized is the Sarasota School of Architecture, an iconic mid-century style said to be initiated by Phillip Hiss during his development of Lido Shores, and further branded by Paul Rudolf in the 1950’s. Examples of this bold and modernist character is found in every corner of our community and continues to influence architects around the world.
This week’s Sarasota MOD “Modern Roots” events presented by the Sarasota Architectural Foundation with seminars, tours and celebrations of the region’s many significant buildings and residences, projecting the original roots and evolution of the design over the last decades, will shine a light on this somewhat unpublicized element of our community.
Edward J. “Tim” Siebert is one of the early architects of the style, beginning his career in 1953. I am thrilled to represent the owners of one of his most prototypical homes, located just steps from the Gulf of Mexico on beautiful Casey Key. Nestled among mature beachside landscaping, this modern home rests on 1.25 acres of beachfront property.
I encourage residents and visitors to add this home to their weekend’s activities and to visit me there on Sunday, October 12, from 1:00-4:00 pm. The home, located at 2315 Casey Key Road, was extensively remodeled in 2004, being faithful and sensitive to preserve the authenticity of the original design. The home is perfectly situated to take advantage of the classic Casey Key gulf to bay setting with views of both the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay.
This relaxing three-bedroom/four-bath estate enjoys gated privacy, sizable windows throughout the home to take advantage of the views, a wood-burning fireplace, and the central courtyard and pool add to the distinctive beauty of the beachfront home.
Casey Key is an 8 mile island with less than 400 single family homes, no traffic lights and no high rise condominium buildings. This very beautiful estate is remote in feeling, yet well-located between the bustling activity on Siesta Key and in the town of Venice, and is just a short drive from Sarasota’s many wonderful dining options, shopping and its extraordinary arts community.
The estate is listed for sale at $4,495,000. View the estate details here.
